Can you believe that we have had our own milk cow for a couple of years now and tonight was the first night we made butter? Granted, I didn't make much, but I will be making more. That stuff is good!
Of course, I thought I was going to shake my arm out of the socket, as I did it the old fashioned way, in a glass jar. When it was finally complete, I scooped some onto a saltine cracker and found that it will be hard to beat the taste of homemade butter. Now I think we may be hooked. I'm only sorry that we didn't make any sooner.
We also decided today that we need to find a milk customer. We are over-run with milk and would hate for it to spoil. So, if your in our area (Ozark County Missouri) let us know if you would like some nutritious milk. Contact us through various means found on this blog.
I am now in the thinking stage of planning another chicken tractor. We are looking to double our production from last year and will require another (at least) tractor. We are eagerly anticipating the Spring explosion of grass. Not only will we save money on hay for the cattle, but we can begin this years crop of broilers. We had such success with them last year that I am anxious. I can't allow myself to get carried away, though. Remember, grass is the key. Right now we don't have any.
We are also awaiting another ice/snow/sleet/thunderstorm. I'm tired of it. However, it is a good feeling to know that we are getting plenty of moisture in the ground ready for the Spring explosion. Then, perhaps, I can look back thankfully. I'm trying to be thankful now but my flesh is getting weaker.
UGH!
