Natural Pesticide for Gardeners and Landscapers

Here, on our farm, we believe in keeping things as natural as possible. We do not believe in chemicals or chemical companies, for that matter. God has given us everything we need to be sustainable, it is that simple.

For years, we have used a natural pesticide on our garden with good success, Diatomaceous Earth, or DE. It is an abrasive that kills the insects attacking your plants by abrading or dehydrating them. It works on ant, slugs, cockroaches, earwigs, grasshoppers and fleas. You can even dust your pets with it. Some folks feed it to their animals for parasite controll. I have done that before and probably should keep doing it.

DE is made of single cell aquatic plants and kind of looks like flour. It can be dusted directly on the plants or on the soil surrounding the plants. I recently learned that newspaper around the base of the plant with DE sprinkled on it works well and helps keep it from dissipating too rapidly.

We have 50# bags of DE available from Fertrell. If you are interested in DE drop us a line. Or, you can click on the Fertrell link found at the right.
