A productive Saturday, Yet, Much Is Unfinished

We had big plans for today, given that this was going to be the first real warm, sunny day in a long while. Thus, we made many plans, at least I did. I still didn't get everything done that I had wanted to.

We went and purchased a few things from the local building supply first thing this morning. We came home with 50 more masonry blocks for more raised bed garden space, 80 feet of PVC pipe for the new chicken tractors and some hardware to go with that project.

The first thing we did was unload all those bricks. We decided to place them where we wanted them right away, so it took a bit longer than we thought. It turned out that we had just enough bricks for the area, something we weren't quite sure of. We laid down used paper feed sacks to help kill the grass and then I got out the Power Wagon and hauled dirt. I didn't even get them all filled before supper. I had to quit to milk the cow and do my usual chores.

I am very pleased with the O'Briens reel I purchased with a quarter mile of Polywire. I fenced off a paddock for the two cows to graze away most of the day. (I set this up before we unloaded all the bricks.) It was a beautiful thing to see them both lying down, chewing their cud. A sure sign of contentedness. They also got fed all the weeds and grass that sprang up under the hoop house as they were pulled by the kids.

I must say, that all four of our children deserve a round of applause as they all worked together very hard. We all got some needed vitamin D from the sun and us boys got to work with our shirts off. We all got dirty and it was great! This may lead to a future article, the feeling of happiness and joy when working on the farm, the way things were meant to be.

To round the day off, I fired up the grill and cooked some brats (no, not the kids) and we sat down to one of our favorite warm weather meals. Now the kids are in the showers and getting clean, and mommy and daddy are ready for a rest.
