A Cold November Day

We spent the morning working in the garden. The intent was to turn under any remaining organic matter and to add and turn under rabbit manure. We bought this garden plow years ago from Lehman's. We tried to use this thing the conventional way, but it proved useless in this Southern Missouri soil. That being said, the plow has proven invaluable in the realm of raised bed gardening. I love to use it now and it saves a lot of back pain that would otherwise come from hoeing.

This is supposed to be a picture of the plow blade. Anyway, this is a great tool and I do enjoy using it much more than a hoe.

As I said, we turned under buckets full of rabbit manure. Man, talk about raising a stink! When we opened the buckets, we got a nice whiff of fresh country air. We love to use the rabbit manure on the garden. It can be put right on without composting it first.

This is the end result after all the remaining weeds have been removed and the rabbit manure turned under. This bed will get mulched real good and left for next spring, Lord willing.

These beds will have the hoops added to it in the near future for the purpose of some cold weather gardening. We will add a layer of plastic over the top to act as a mini greenhouse, or hoop house. It works quite well and were pleased with the success this past January.

So, that is what we did on this blustery day in Southern Missouri. The sun shone brightly for most of the time we were outside, but ducked under the clouds in the afternoon. The thermometer read 45 degrees when we came in for lunch, and the wind ripped right through our bodies. The temp wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for that wind. We stayed inside near the fire the rest of the day.
