Obama Calls For Gun Control

I really get tired of this stuff.  Gun control never was the answer.  Read more...

I think that if you read the actual text of the President's op-ed you would find that he isn't calling for increased gun control. It seemed to me he was asking for better enforcement of existing laws, and quicker background checks that would allow safe, law-abiding citizens to purchase their guns and reduce the chances that unstable individuals get them.

I guess I've never understood why people think Obama is so anti-gun. There was all this noise about him stopping people from buying guns, and so everyone went out and bought more. Meanwhile he hasn't said much about guns until the Gabrielle Giffords shootings. Sometimes I wonder if it isn't the folks selling the guns and ammo who want to make more money, so they get folks riled up for no reason.

Just a thought.

Per the link:

"The president said the federal government should provide incentives to states to produce better data."

What that really means:

The Feds will bribe States with taxpayer money to comply with more & more Gun laws.

kvoth, I hear what you are saying. However, why enforce crummy laws that already exist? It is very plain, at least to me, that they are not effective. The bottom line is that the bad guys always have guns. Law abiding citizens have a tougher time getting a gun by virtue of trying to obey the law. What if 2-3 folks had a gun on them in the crowd in Arizona? They might have stopped many from being killed. The federal government has stepped in where the states should have the authority. The gun is not evil, it is the person behind it. Obama would take our guns in a heart beat, if he could. But, I htink they know they would have a fight on their hands, so they shy away and pass stupid laws which are, simply, a means to an end-removing all guns. Anti-gun legislation is just one small step. I apreciate your side of this and am not unwilling to hear it, so keep coming back.
